Ladies and Gentlemen, good evening. I am indeed honored and glad to be with you tonight. Let me first acknowledge and thank Mr. Martin Lessenthin for his kind introduction, and the International Society of Human Rights for inviting me to this conference. My first and fundamental observation has been and continues to be this: the relentless pursuit of human rights is the essence of democracy.
